Nunawading Massage

Quality, Accessible Massage Treatment Near Nunawading At Our Student Massage Clinic

ACFB’s Student Massage Clinic offers quality offerings for one-hour relaxation, remedial and myotherapy sessions delivered by students of the Australian College of Fitness & Bodywork, supervised by qualified trainers. The clinic is a 5 minute drive from Nunawading to our Mitcham campus on Mitcham Road, roughly 4 kilometres away, and runs Monday to Friday by appointment.

Why Nunawading locals book with ACFB

A full hour, from $25

Relaxation treatments are $25, remedial treatments are $35 and myotherapy is $40, with each one booked as a one-hour appointment. The lower price isn’t a sign of a lower standard of care. It reflects the fact that you’re helping a student complete their training, with a qualified trainer overseeing the session. Payment is made securely when you book, so there’s nothing left to sort out when you arrive.

Supervised from first question to final check

Every session is supervised by a qualified ACFB Trainer and Assessor, who will come into the room at points throughout your treatment. Before any hands-on work begins, your student will ask about your history and complete a physical assessment. Then comes the treatment itself, followed by a re-assessment so you can both see what has actually changed. And if something comes up that sits outside a student’s scope? The supervising trainer is brought in, and may refer you on to your own health care practitioner.

Myotherapy with optional dry needling and cupping

Our myotherapy sessions are delivered by students completing the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy (22656VIC), and they’re built for pain, injury and specific conditions. It’s the most advanced of our three treatments. Where your assessment shows they’d be appropriate, optional myofascial dry needling and cupping can be included within the same $40 session.

What do we offer Nunawading clients?

We offer three one-hour treatments, and each one suits a slightly different reason for booking.

  • Relaxation is for general tension and stress, with life admin and the challenges of your day to day typically causing tension to build up over a busy few weeks.
  • Remedial massage is more targeted, working on a specific area such as a stiff neck, a tight lower back or sore shoulders.
  • Myotherapy goes a step further again. It’s designed for pain, injury or specific conditions that call for a more therapeutic approach.

For Nunawading locals, and for neighbours in Forest Hill who share the 3131 postcode, the clinic is a short trip along Whitehorse Road. You can book as often as appointment availability allows, whether that’s a one-off treatment or something more regular. The only limit is one booking per client, per day.

Why book a massage treatment?

There’s growing evidence that massage therapy can help relieve both physical and mental health conditions. For some, this is simply a great way to destress and unwind; while for others, this could be a key aspect in their physical therapy managing a longer-term issue alongside their GP. Your session starts with an interview and assessment, allowing for your treatment to be aimed at addressing what’s actually ailing or troubling you, rather than following the same routine for every client who walks through the door.

How are your students trained?

Every student in our clinic is completing a nationally recognised qualification at ACFB, a registered training organisation (RTO 21150).
Relaxation treatments are delivered by students in the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy (HLT42021), and remedial treatments by students in the Diploma of Remedial Massage (HLT52021). Myotherapy is delivered by Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy (22656VIC) students.

Our courses combine expert-led theory with extensive hands-on practice, and students only ever treat conditions that sit within their scope of practice.
We’re also proud of the recognition our training has received over the years. ACFB has previously been named Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year, and won Excellence in a Small Business at the Whitehorse Business Awards.

Relaxation / Basic Treatment Involving gentle, kneading pressure, this is a whole-body or regional massage using long, flowing strokes to settle tension and help you switch off.
Remedial / Deep Tissue Treatment Focused work on a specific area of pain, tightness or injury, with deeper techniques where your assessment calls for them.
Myotherapy / Advanced Treatment Advanced assessment and treatment for musculoskeletal pain and recurring injury. May include myofascial dry needling and cupping.

What our clients are saying

I was a first time client at ACFB and was not disappointed. My therapist Stacey was on time and looked after me throughout my appointment. Stacey was professional and confident in her abilities. She took a thorough history and listened to my concerns. I will definitely be back and would be happy to recommend ACFB.

Heather W.

The college was recommended by someone I know after we were chatting about prohibitive cost of treatment these days which prevents me going regularly. Thanks to this clinic I can now go monthly for advanced myotherapy or remedial massage and the difference in my 74yr old body is amazing. Very professional, thorough and the students are obviously well trained. Highly recommend them. I’m very grateful.

Hendricka D.

I have attended ACFB about 5 or 6 times now, and the students have been very capable and professional. Particular thanks to Ethan and Anja, both of whom were outstanding communicators and excellent practitioners – they certainly did not seem like ‘Learners’! I will definitely be back in a few weeks for another massage.

FAQ
How do I get to ACFB student clinic from Nunawading?

Head east along Whitehorse Road (Maroondah Highway) and turn right into Mitcham Road. The campus is at Suite 4/333 Mitcham Road, towards the bowls club. Coming by train? Mitcham station sits on the same Lilydale and Belgrave lines as Nunawading station.

Can I claim a student clinic massage on my private health fund?

No, unfortunately not. Because our students aren't yet qualified, sessions at the student clinic can't be claimed through your private health fund. It's part of the reason a full hour starts from just $25.

Does the student clinic offer dry needling or cupping?

Yes, you can choose these as part of our myotherapy treatments. Myofascial dry needling and cupping are optional, and can be included within a $40 myotherapy session if your assessment shows they're suitable for you. Your student will discuss it with you first, while you agree on your treatment plan together.

Should I book remedial massage or myotherapy?

If you've got tightness or soreness in one particular area, such as your neck, shoulders or lower back, remedial massage is a good place to start. Myotherapy suits pain that keeps coming back, an injury that has been ongoing for some time, or anyone who'd like dry needling or cupping considered. Still unsure? Book remedial, and your student can suggest whether myotherapy might be worth trying next time.

Is the clinic open on weekends?

No. The clinic runs Monday to Friday by appointment and is closed on public holidays.

Is the full hour spent on massage?

A one-hour appointment may include a 5 minute interview, a 10 minute assessment, 40 minutes of treatment and a 5 minute evaluation at the end. These extra steps are part of how students are trained, and they're also how your treatment gets tailored to you.

Can I book a massage while pregnant?

Yes, although there are a few conditions. In your second or third trimester, our students can treat you as long as you haven't had any complications during your pregnancy. In the first trimester, or if you have had complications, you'll need to bring written clearance from your medical practitioner.
