Which in-turn provides you with the confidence and knowledge to start your new career once you graduate!

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release refers to a physical therapy technique often implemented to alleviate myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic discomfort triggered by tightness and sensitivity in the myofascial tissues enveloping and sustaining the body’s muscles. Pain typically originates from certain trigger points within these tissues.

The therapy aims to ease tension in the trigger points, subsequently reducing pain. Due to the difficulty in pinpointing the exact trigger point causing the discomfort, the myofascial release therapy is generally applied over a broad muscle and tissue area.

In our Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy Course, we equip our students with the knowledge and practical skills to successfully apply myofascial release techniques, among others. Our expert trainers ensure a holistic approach that combines theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, fostering the competence and confidence to support clients in their journey towards improved health and mobility.

What Constitutes a Lomi Lomi Massage?

A Lomi Lomi massage, also known as a Hawaiian full body massage, represents a unique approach to massage therapy that uses a mix of instinctual techniques, coupled with controlled breathing, to open up energy pathways and alleviate tension. Using their hands and forearms, therapists employ long, rhythmic, sweeping strokes to massage the body, often focusing on multiple areas simultaneously.

The Lomi Lomi technique aids in enhancing circulation, flexibility, and immune response, while also working to reduce blood pressure. The comprehensive practical training and advanced remedial techniques taught at ACFB ensure students gain the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively execute a Lomi Lomi massage among other techniques. In turn, these skills make our graduates highly sought-after therapists in the massage industry.

What Is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger point therapy, part of a remedial massage therapist’s repertoire, focuses on the neuromuscular system with an aim to expedite recovery from injury, rectify muscular imbalances, and alleviate pain. In this therapy, pressure gets applied to muscle ‘knots’ or areas of tightness, following a muscle stretch. The goal here lies in alleviating muscle tension and fostering healing.

Trigger point therapy amis to ‘reprogram’ the neuromuscular system. Following a muscle injury, inflammation happens, causing pain, leading you to protect the muscle to avert further damage. By applying pressure, trigger point therapy decreases this pain, allowing muscles to revert to their normal state. This aids in healing as inflammation diminishes, leading to reduced pain and tightness.
Trigger point therapy proves advantageous for conditions such as muscle injury, muscle tightness, carpel tunnel syndrome, and repetitive strain injury. When you undertake the Diploma of Remedial Massage course at ACFB, you acquire comprehensive knowledge about techniques like trigger point therapy, ensuring that you are well-equipped to meet the demands of the massage industry.

What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

A Lymphatic Drainage Massage, often referred to as Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), provides relief from swelling that occurs due to the lymphatic system’s disruption caused by medical treatment or certain illnesses. This massage technique gently manipulates specific body areas to facilitate the movement of lymph towards regions with functioning lymph vessels.

This therapeutic approach is particularly useful for mitigating painful swelling in limbs affected by lymphedema, commonly experienced by individuals recovering from surgeries like breast cancer procedures. Lymphedema is a condition where tissues accumulate fluid left behind by the cardiovascular system supplying blood to tissues and organs.

This excess fluid, known as lymph, is typically collected by the lymphatic system and returned to the heart through a network of lymph vessels and nodes. When the lymphatic system is disrupted, lymph accumulates in your limbs, resulting in swelling.
Through Manual Lymphatic Drainage techniques, a massage therapist can move lymph from your tissues to your lymph nodes, effectively alleviating tissue swelling. For those studying at ACFB, the Diploma of Remedial Massage course incorporates detailed education on Manual Lymphatic Drainage, among other advanced remedial massage techniques.

What Should I Wear for a Massage Session?

Deciding on what to wear to a massage is all about prioritising your comfort. Opt for loose, easy-to-remove clothing, much like your gym attire. This consideration makes the process of changing into your massage session attire simple and ensures you remain comfortable post-session, especially as some residual massage oil might linger on your skin.

Do note that while some clients prefer being entirely unclothed for a massage—especially for full-body sessions—it is not a requirement. You should undress to your level of comfort, and it’s perfectly acceptable to retain your undergarments. During the treatment, a professional therapist—like those trained in the Diploma of Remedial Massage Course at ACFB—will keep you sufficiently covered with a blanket or a large towel for your comfort. Your privacy and comfort are paramount, and therapists will navigate the cover so that you never feel exposed during the session.

Before commencing the session, if you’re opting to wear underwear, the therapist may offer you disposable underwear to prevent any oil from staining your clothing, especially during a full-body massage. Always remember, every decision related to your session is entirely up to you.
