How can I study at ACFB?

If you wish to enrol in a course at ACFB you must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen or specific VISA holder,
  • be 18 years of age and over,
  • have a minimum of year 10 English or equivalent (please refer to the Academic suitability question below)
  • meet any other eligibility requirements for each course

I want to become a personal trainer; what do I need to do?

In order to become a qualified personal trainer, you will need to complete both the Certificate III in Fitness course and Certificate IV in Fitness course which is the Personal Trainers Course.

I want to start my own massage business; what massage course do I need to do?

If you want to start your own massage business, the minimum qualification you will need to work in this industry is the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. If you want to offer remedial massage so your clients can claim through their health funds, then you will need to complete our Diploma of Remedial Massage course via on-campus or on-campus FLEXI study.

I have not studied for many years; will I be able to cope?

Most of our students are mature age, many of whom have not studied for many years.

ACFB’s courses are specifically tailored towards adult learners to help them get the most out of this studying opportunity. Prior to enrolment, we conduct a Pre-Training review with each student to determine their training needs, academic suitability, support requirements and their ability to complete their preferred course. We also provide a lot of support to all students and our trainers are always available to answer any questions that students may have prior to enrolling and throughout the course duration.

How much homework is involved?

All of ACFB’s courses require homework to be completed each week – The more you put into your course, the more you will get out of it!

Depending on your chosen course and delivery method, you will need to set aside between 12-20 hours per week to complete your studies.

Will I need a computer and internet?

Yes, all of your course material, training films, additional resources are available online via your interactive eLearning portal. Your assessments are also completed and submitted online.

You will also need to use one (1) of the following web browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Firefox Mozilla

You will also need to submit some of your theory assessments using the following programs:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Open Office
  • PDF (Certificate III & IV in Fitness only)

Please Note:

iPads may be used as long as the have the functionality to open and edit the above file types. You may also need access to a printer as some stage of your course.

What if I have trouble reading and writing?

Reading and writing (English) is a major part of all ACFB’s courses. Prior to enrolment, we conduct a Pre-Training review with each student to determine their academic suitability, training needs, support requirements and their ability to complete their preferred course. If you are unable to read or write, ACFB recommends a Foundations Skills course.

Will I need to speak english?

Yes, all of your course material is in English and all students will need to be able to read, write, speak and understand English in order to complete our courses. Prior to enrolment, we conduct a Pre-Training review with each student to determine their academic suitability, training needs, support requirements and their ability to complete their preferred course.

Academic Suitability

All students must be academically suited to undertake their chosen and approved course and meet any other specified entry requirement for the course.

For enrolments in an Advanced Diploma level course:

  1. ACFB must obtain a copy of a HLT50307/HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage certificate that has been awarded to the student; and
  2. the course for the qualification was delivered in English.

and,

  1. ACFB reasonably believes that the student displays that competence;

 

For enrolments in a VET Student Loans enabled course:

  1. obtains a copy of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education that has been awarded to the student by an agency or authority of a State or Territory for the student’s completion of year 12;

or,

  1. ACFB must obtain a copy of a certificate (however described) that a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework has been awarded to the student; and
  2. the course for the qualification was delivered in English.

or,

  1. the student is assessed^ as displaying competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy using an assessment tool* approved under section 82; and
  2. ACFB reasonably believes that the student displays that competence;

Also, ACFB must believe on reasonable grounds that the student is academically suited to undertake the course.

 

For enrolments in a Certificate IV level course:

  1. obtains a copy of a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education that has been awarded to the student by an agency or authority of a State or Territory for the student’s completion of year 12;

or,

  1. ACFB must obtain a copy of a certificate (however described) that a qualification at level 3 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework has been awarded to the student; and
  2. the course for the qualification was delivered in English.

or,

* Please note: The assessment tool used by ACFB and approved by the Department is the Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) tool. All assessments are conducted with honesty and integrity.

^ The results of assessing a student’s competence in reading and numeracy will be provided:

                             (a)   to the student as soon as practicable after the assessment; and

                             (b)   to the Secretary in the form, manner and by the time requested by the Secretary.

If we detect the potential student may have difficulty with the course due to lower than required communication or core skills level, ESL, has a special learning need and/or disability and/or has not completed any previous qualifications, ACFB may request a student completes a Core Skills Assessment, irrespective of having completed a qualification level listed above (a, b & c above), so that ACFB may gain a better understanding or their Core Skills level, training needs and academic suitability.

Are there payment plans available?

Yes!

ACFB provides a variety of instalment options for all of our courses which are INTEREST FREE. Students can choose from a set plan or a personalised payment plan organised prior to the commencement of your course. You have the option of weekly, fortnightly or monthly instalments, over the duration of the course.

All instalment plans MUST be via direct debit and there is a one off $10 set-up fee.

Is there funding options available?

Yes.

Does ACFB offer VET Student Loans?

ACFB has approval by the Department of Education & Training and Study Assist to offer VET Student Loans to students enrolled in our HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage course.

Eligible students will be able to loan up to $10,432 for the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage course. Click here to find out more.

Are the courses recognised throughout Australia?

All of ACFB’s courses are Nationally Recognised throughout Australia!

What Qualifications will I receive?

Upon completion of your course(s), you will receive a Nationally Recognised Qualification including and Statement of Results.

Do I have to give up my job to attend the course?

No!

All of ACFB’s courses are designed to fit into the busy lifestyle of each student and we also offer a variety of different study options. Check the specific course page for delivery options available for that course.

Can I complete these courses via Distance Learning?

ACFB offers a variety of delivery options for each course including:

  • On-campus
  • On-campus FLEXI
  • Distance learning anywhere in Australia!

Please note: the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy course is only delivered on-campus and the Diploma of Remedial Massage is only delivered on-campus or via on-campus FLEXI.
